Behind the Screens: Meet Our Team!
Behind The Screens is our way of showing you our development process with our
next Meet The Team.
Step beyond the flat screens of your phone or computer and into the FlatPonies stables! Here, the only flat thing is our logo and screens — our team is made up of real, 3D-shaped humans. But each team member has a 2D pony mascot, designed to reflect their unique personality.
Giddy up! We’re excited to introduce you to our office culture, what we’re working on, and—because we know you’re curious—why each pony mascot looks the way it does!
Level Designer
Alice Persson
What’s your role at FlatPonies?
I’m a level designer. When I worked on Rebots, I also filled in as a writer.
What makes a great work environment?
Good people, good place, good pay.
What excites you most about our current project?
I never thought I’d get the chance to work on a 3D platformer – at least not here in Scandinavia. It’s a genre that requires a lot from level design, so while it’s difficult and a bit scary to work on it, I’m learning a lot.
What’s been the biggest ‘aha’ moment in development so far?
Overall improving as a level designer and becoming more confident in this role. I recall working on an area and everything clicked, and when I playtested I could see how the players genuinely had fun. Until then I’d felt a bit like an impostor who couldn’t do level design, but now I feel like I can do this.
What’s a fun or unexpected fact about you that your teammates might not know about you?
My lifelong dream is to publish a comic book.
If you could jump back in time, and play your favorite childhood video game, which one would it be and why? OR What’s a gaming moment from your childhood that you’ll never forget?
I’ll never forget when I made my first Night Elf in World of Warcraft and stepped out of Shadowglen. Seeing the path curving between giant trees, illuminated by a pink haze and starlit lanterns, all accompanied by that wonderful music… the world felt so vast and real! Like a true elven forest.
Tell us about your pony—why is it designed this way?
My pony is holding a tricorder. I’m a big fan of Star Trek and at the time I was in the middle of a binge watch.
