Behind the Screens: Meet Our Team!
Behind The Screens is our way of showing you our development process with our first Meet The Team.
Step beyond the flat screens of your phone or computer and into the FlatPonies stables! Here, the only flat thing is our logo and screens — our team is made up of real, 3D-shaped humans. But each team member has a 2D pony mascot, designed to reflect their unique personality.
Giddy up! We’re excited to introduce you to our office culture, what we’re working on, and—because we know you’re curious—why each pony mascot looks the way it does!

What’s your role at FlatPonies?
I guess I’m a bit of an art generalist? I’m a 3D artist that does some 2D concepts as well. Characters are what I’m specialised in, but I’ll occasionally help out with other assets too.
What makes a great work environment?
Flexibility, combined with good communication and vibes, makes for motivated people and good games.
What excites you most about our current project?
That it really harkens back to the type of games I would play as a kid. It’s very nostalgic to work on.
What’s been the biggest ‘aha’ moment in development so far?
I haven’t been part of the team for that long, but sitting down and learning how to use trim sheets in effective and creative ways has taught me a lot already!
What’s a fun or unexpected fact about you that your teammates might not know about you?
I have an advanced open water scuba diving certification! I’ve seen sharks, clownfish, lionfish, moray eels, and many more, and have had manta rays play with the bubbles coming out of my oxygen tank.
The weightlessness of being underwater, paired with watching an entirely different world while it operates like you’re not even there, is an unforgettable experience. It’s something I think everyone who gets the chance should try out.
If you could jump back in time, and play your favorite childhood video game, which one would it be and why? OR What’s a gaming moment from your childhood that you’ll never forget?
I grew up on almost purely Nintendo games when I was little, so going back to some of those would be really fun, I think. Luigi’s Mansion, TLOZ: Skyward Sword, and Super Mario Galaxy in particular hold some of my fondest childhood memories. The Zelda franchise is still with me to this day (I learned the alphabet they use in Twilight Princess recently!).
Going a little older, another game I would absolutely love to experience blind again is Undertale. I’m revealing my age a little here, but it came out when I was in middle school, and EVERYTHING in my life started revolving around it. I’d try to incorporate it into my schoolwork, especially in the more creative classes like art, woodworking, and sewing. I doodled the characters in all of my school notebooks and listened almost exclusively to the game’s soundtrack. It got to the point where I could tell you the order of the songs in the album off the top of my head, and knew every voice line the bosses said at the start of their fights – both in their pacifist and genocide versions.
Tell us about your pony—why is it designed this way?
I’m DLC-locked, sorry.
