2025: Letting the Cat Out of the Bag
We ended December in snow, and we’re starting off January in… more snow!
But we’re kicking off the year with some warm, fuzzy news: Scratch The Cat has been selected for the TAGS Showcase 2026!
Our year ahead is already off to a great start – but before we hit play on 2026, let’s rewind a little. 2025 was all about letting the cat out of the bag: showing off Scratch, our development progress, team stories, and what makes this game tick (and scratch). Through our website and newsletters, we unpacked Scratch’s world piece by piece – so here’s a quick highlight on 2025.
MAY we drop the trailer?
At the start of 2025, we flew across the ocean to GDC in San Francisco – not to make a big public splash just yet, but to learn, connect, and share early parts of Scratch The Cat with fellow developers. It was a valuable trip filled with feedback, inspiration, and plenty of notes to take home. That experience helped set the stage. Because a little later…
We finally dropped the needle in May. We premiered our announcement trailer at The Six One Indie Showcase on May 22nd, 2025 – alongside a short behind-the-scenes look at our studio.
We also opened the stables and introduced more of the team at FlatPonies. Through a series of interviews, we leaned fully into horse puns, our pony avatars, and a peek behind the curtain at the people making Scratch groove.
Play Nice, Test Twice
Throughout the year, we brought Scratch out into the real world with playtesting at schools, meeting players face-to-face and getting some very enthusiastic feedback.
August also marked a big milestone: two years since Scratch The Cat entered pre-production. Since then we have grown – and kept growing – as our producer Nick Demetroulakos and artist Tyra Malmqvist joined the FlatPonies crew in 2025.
Culture, Cats & Community Cheers
In October, Scratch The Cat was nominated for the DevGAMM Community Choice Award – a proud moment for the team.
We also took part in Culture Night on October 10th at Prosa in Copenhagen, where visitors got hands-on time with Scratch and a look at early visuals from development. Seeing players try the game in person never gets old: how people lean forward with excitement, and sometimes eager-frustration – it definitely keeps us motivated.
Thanks for Being Part of the Record
Whether you’ve been reading our newsletters, watching trailers, following along on social media, or wishlist-ing Scratch The Cat – thank you.
Here’s to snowy starts, studio sprints, rhythm-filled worlds, and everything spinning our way in 2026.
Thanks for listening – and remember:
Stay groovy. Stay scratchy.
