Theme song rapped by…

February is usually all about hearts, flowers, and questionable chocolate choices – but we traded the candy for controllers! We spent the month putting Scratch The Cat to the ultimate test at Copenhagen Gaming Week with TAGS. Moving from quiet school playtests to a massive convention was a “heart-pounding” shift, but even with flashy distractions everywhere, kids kept choosing Scratch and coming back for more. It’s safe to say we felt the love!

We wrapped up the month with a rap: our official theme song, performed by the rappin’ duck MC Quack. For those who haven’t met her yet, she’s our resident narrator and the lyrical powerhouse of The Hub. She’s the heartbeat of the Scratch soundtrack – setting the stage for Scratch’s adventures and keeping the rhythm moving. The name is a cheeky wink to our Danish roots: since “anden rapper” can mean both “the duck is quacking” and “the duck is rapping.”

But which real-life rap talent is putting the bars down behind our friend? You’ll have to keep scrolling to find out!

From Classroom Quiet to Convention Chaos

February was a massive “level up” for our team. We moved from the controlled environment of school playtests to the beautiful mayhem of Copenhagen Gaming Week. Our communications manager, Julie Hindkjær, noted the shift:

“Moving from quiet school playtests to a busy convention was a huge shift! We were suddenly competing with massive games and famous YouTubers, so seeing kids choose Scratch – and then come back again and again – was a massive win for us.”

This enthusiasm was felt from the moment the doors opened. Our Sound Designer, Casper Taro, loved the energy:

“The absolute best moment at TAGS was when we opened the exhibition each morning; hundreds of kids would just storm in like a horde of zombies, hungry after playing all the games exhibited, including ours!”

Meet Eigil: one of the many players at Copenhagen Gaming Week who couldn’t resist coming back for ‘just one more round’ of Scratch The Cat.

Solo Play, Team Spirit

The convention floor proved that we should never underestimate our audience. We watched in awe as a 10-year-old navigated and completed the entire demo – even did a speedrun – but the real magic was seeing our vision for a social, collaborative experience come to life. Even though Scratch is a solo game, the kids turned it into a team effort, leaning in to help one another with pointers and hints on how to conquer the next task. Producer Nick Demetroulakos observed:

“I think I discovered how collaborative and fun Scratch can be for a pair or even group of people. Watching parents play with their children, and groups of friends or siblings sharing tricks or revealing new discoveries was really fun, and also rewarding – this is the kind of game we want Scratch to be!”

It wasn’t just about finishing the game; it was about finishing it fast. We noticed a growing competitive streak among the players that even infected our own team. Creative Director Felix Sherar discovered a whole new way people were enjoying the demo:

“I discovered that kids had fun playing the same sections over again that they had already done in a previous run, but this time much faster. It lends itself well to speedrunning. At one point we started timing each other internally for who could beat the tutorial the fastest. Nobody could beat my 1 minute time.”

Visualizing the Journey

We aren’t just relying on memories; we have the data to prove how players moved through the world. As you can see in the pathway map above, over 200 players carved their way through the tutorial and into the Rhythm Ruins. The colored lines indicate their movement velocity:

  • Green/Yellow: A slow walk or steady run.
  • Red: Picking up serious speed.
  • Purple: The absolute fastest – which often means a player was either speedrunning or… plummeting into the abyss!

By visualizing these paths, we can see exactly where players soared and where they stumbled. Our Creative Director, Felix Sherar, explains the value of this data:

“We can analyze exactly where players were and how fast they were moving at any given point in time. Not only can we see where players struggle or get stuck, but we can also roughly tell what they were doing when it happened. This is incredibly useful for iterating on our levels and identifying the real pain points.”

Dropping the Beat: Meet the Voice of MC Quack

The excitement didn’t stop at the convention floor. We ended the month in the studio wrapping up the official theme song for Scratch the Cat. While we’ve been busy building the world, we needed a voice with enough attitude to bring our feathered phenom of the pond, MC Quack, to life.

We are beyond thrilled to reveal that the bars behind the beak belong to none other than the Danish-Eritrean rap sensation Feven Geles, better known as FVN! Since her debut in 2019, FVN has been a force of nature in the Danish music scene. A GAFFA-Prisen nominee for “New Danish Artist of the Year,” she is known for her fearless energy and hits like “Work” that dominated the charts on our national radio DR’s P3 (Denmark’s equivalent to BBC Radio 1), serving as the country’s most influential station for discovering new talent.

Most recently, in the fall of 2025, she released her debut EP, ‘Hende’, which earned widespread praise for delivering “bars with bite” and revealing a new, personal depth to her music. That same signature flow makes her the perfect fit for the Scratch universe as she steps into the role of MC Quack.

From Concept Art to Center Stage

Produced by our very own Casper Taro and Felix Sherar, the theme song is the heartbeat of the game. For Casper, seeing the character evolve from a sketch to a lyrical powerhouse was a highlight of the development process:

“Recording the theme song for Scratch was such a fun experience! FVN was very professional, efficient and delivered exactly what we needed! She really took on the identity of MC Quack and brought the character out of the concept art and into the recording studio with all the style and attitude it included. I was convinced that FVN had become MC Quack.”

To capture the right vibe for our theme song, we turned to our Creative Director, Felix Sherar. As someone who knows how to scratch a record in real life as well as he designs levels, Felix was the mastermind behind the lyrics. He shares his thoughts on the recording process below

“The theme takes inspiration from 90’s hip-hop and turntablism, so adding a rap on top of it was a no-brainer. In the final game, the theme sets the stage for the story and is how we introduce players to the world of Scratch. MC Quack is the narrator of that story, so it was such a cool experience to finally hear your tongue twisters come out of someone who knows how to do this. FVN was a blast to work with and went at it with determination and a smile.”

FVN’s ability to command a room – whether it’s a festival stage or a recording booth – has given MC Quack a legendary presence. We can’t wait for you to hear the final track, but for now, keep an eye (and ear) out for more snippets of those “duck-ish” verses coming soon!
